The Young Adult Summit (YAS) is a weekend-long retreat for burn survivors between the ages of 16 to 20. Since its conception in 1998, each year over President’s Day weekend, around 35 young burn survivors gather at beautiful Camp Ocean Pines in Cambria, California. This program was the first of its kind and has since served as a guiding model for other Young Adult Burn Survivor Camps.
YAS was created to meet the unique challenges associated with growing up with burn injuries and to offer assistance in transitioning into various chapters of being a young adult. Each of the workshops and exercises are designed to engage teens in life skills, team building, and leadership. Burn survivors gain tools and new knowledge on a variety of applicable life topics that include budgeting and finance, automotive and home repairs, public speaking, health and nutrition, and many more. YAS is one of our most popular and sought-after programs to attend.
The Young Adult Summit is also the first step for young adults who want to participate in the Champ Camp Counselor in Training Program (CIT).
The Young Adult Summit begins on Friday and continues until Monday afternoon. All meals are provided. A $35 per person fee may be required for this event. The weekend is fully staffed with AARBF personnel and fully screened volunteers.
