Deadline for Scholarships to World Burn Congress
Consider
applying for a sponsorship to attend the World Burn Congress,
an annual international conference sponsored by the Phoenix Society.
The conference is a forum which encourages and facilitates the sharing
of stories, providing support and increasing knowledge of burn recovery,
for burn survivors, burn care professionals and firefighters. This
year's World Burn Congress is October 1-4, 2008, in Raleigh, North
Carolina. AARBF is encouraging those with an interest to apply.
The World Burn
Congress Scholarship provides partial and/or full scholarships for
expenses associated with attending the World Burn Congress, a conference
for burn survivors, their loved ones, firefighters and burn care
professionals. Brian Hall, a burn survivor in Fresno, Calif.,
received the World Burn Congress Scholarship last year.
"It helped
me quite a bit. It is interesting to see other people and hear
what they are going through and see how they get through it. I
got insight there," he said. "I wanted to visit with
other burn survivors and introduce myself to the Phoenix Society.
Occasionally they discuss medical advances and I'm still in recovery
stage, so that's pertinent to me."
The amount awarded
by the scholarships varies on the level of need and number of recipients.
Scholarships require applicants to have an established relationship
with AARBF, such as involvement in Champ Camp, a support group,
or special events. Also, one or two letters of reference and an
explanation of financial need is required.
Applications
and materials must be postmarked no later than August 22nd. To receive
an application, call the Central California office at 1-888-492-BURN
or email astetler@aarbf.org.
The application is also available online at http://www.aarbf.org/events/WBCApplication.pdf.
