Wind
and Fire Motorcycle Club Roars into Camp
Everyone
knows when the Wind and Fire Motorcycle Club arrives at Champ Camp.
The Wind and Fire Motorcycle Club is second largest motorcycle club
in world. To be a member you need to be a firefighter and ride a
Harley-Davidson motorcycle. This year, Burn Camp Run organizer Scott
McSeveney expects about 60 members of the club to ride their Harleys
into camp.
"I remember
the thing the kids loved the most, aside from Wild Water Adventures
in Clovis, is when the bikes came out," said Scott, a Fresno
chapter Wind and Fire member and former Champ Camp counselor.
When the motorcycles
arrive, campers hurry out to have their pictures taken sitting on
the motorcycles and with the firefighters who ride them. The Wind
and Fire riders share the joy of their Harley-Davidsons, and present
the generous funds they've raised for the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation's
Champ Camp. In 2007, Wind and Fire chapters from across California
donated over $10,000 to sponsor kids to camp.
"We do
a lot of charity and ride together and have a lot of fun,"
said Scott. "As firefighters, we see a lot of horrible stuff
and the Burn Camp Run is a good opportunity to see kids after they've
been burned and see how they're getting along. The kids are so fun
to be around."
This year is
the 14th year of the Champ Camp Burn Camp Run. Riders come from
chapters all around California and a few often come from out of
state. The Wind and Fire Motorcycle Club started in 1991, has more
than 3,900 members and 153 chapters in 49 states and 22 countries.
"The Club
really and truly is a brotherhood. You can be in the middle of no
where and come across a member and have an instant friend,"
Scott said.
