The Getaway

The Getaway is a three-day retreat in the foothills of the Sierra Mountains for adult burn survivors and their loved ones. Each year, approximately 120 burn survivors and their loved ones enjoy this experience over Labor Day weekend at Camp Oakhurst, in Coarsegold, California. The Getaway is open to adult burn survivors who have been treated in a California hospital for their burn injuries.

The Getaway’s programs, workshops and activities were created to help the burn survivor and their immediate support system grow, learn, and interact with other families who are coping with the same recovery and burn-related issues.  The Getaway is an opportunity for survivors to ask questions, gain support and create a network. It has also become a tradition for many survivors and their families, including survivors who want to share their experience from Champ Camp with their children. The informational workshops, water wars, talent show, and outdoor activities such as paintball, high ropes, mountain biking, children’s activities, and camp fire all make this weekend unforgettable!

For more information on attending The Getaway, please contact Margarita "Cubby" Rodriguez by email at mrodriguez@aarbf.org or by phone at (800) 242-BURN.
